Not a run-of-the-mill Shed this! This was the first of 18 Sherpas built making its first flight on August 6 1984 registered G-BLLJ. It was operated in Germany assigned to the 10th Military Airlift Squadron at Zweibrucken AB. 10 MAS operated 18 C-23s from 1984-1991, their mission being to distribute spare parts throughout the European theater. After the fall of the Berlin Wall the C-23s returned to the USA & four were used at Edwards AFB for various test duties. The type was described by one USAF test pilot as "the ugliest aircraft ever designed by man or God." Personally, I think thats a little unfair! 83-0512 was retired to AMARC on December 18 1997 but left there on 11 May 1999 to take up a civilian career with Sky Way Enterprises Inc as N118SW.
