A successful design that was fatally flawed by the lack of a suitable engine, and which proved a very difficult aircraft for home-builders to put together. Of around 3000 kits produced, less than 1000 were sold, and this caused Jim Bede to declare himself bankrupt in 1979. This particular aircraft logged just 9 hours flying before being donated to the NASM in 1984.
