This aircraft currently resides at RAF Henlow, Bedfordshire, England. It was the last one built by Rousseau Aviation (France) in 1968 and registered F-BRAA. It was imported into the UK in the early 1970s and re-registered G-AZGY. Designed by Claud Piel, the CP301B was an improved version of the very successful CP301A series; the main differences being a change in aileron size and a sliding canopy. The Emeraude is also known as the 'Working Lad's Spitfire' due to its elliptical wing plan form. G-AZGY was originally constructed with a Continental C90. However, in the late 1980s, the C90 was replaced with a license built Rolls Royce Continental O-200. The all wood and fabric aircraft has a reputation for being a delight to fly with its very light and responsive controls. Its development led to the very successful CAP10 aerobatic aircraft. Emeraudes rarely come onto the market and those who are lucky enough to own one would describe them as a well kept secret!
