The only prototype surviving from WWll, W4050 was built here at Salisbury Hall and transported by road to Hatfield on Nov 3rd 1940 to be first flown by Geoffrey de Havilland Jnr on Nov 25th 1940. Painted yellow for ease of identification, she proved to be the forerunner of high speed fighter/bombers.
